Magic & Melee #5
A Week of Joy, GDC Dreams, and Game Dev Tools
Hey everyone,
Welcome back to Magic & Melee!
It's been a week of pure joy and celebration! I celebrated my birthday with a cherished tradition AND got married! 🎉🎂💍 It's been a beautiful and exciting time in my life.
For my birthday, I made sure to visit Phoenix Bakery. It's a local spot that I've been going to since my very first birthday, and it's always a special treat. It also has a cool history because the people who started Phoenix Bakery also started Cathay Bank. It's a reminder of the rich history and traditions that shape our lives.

Now, I'm diving headfirst into GDC prep mode! It's a bit tricky juggling everything, especially since I'll be representing three different organizations. I'm definitely feeling the pressure, but I'm also incredibly excited for the opportunity.
GDC Focus: Amplifying Women's Voices
At GDC, I'm planning to make the most of my platform by connecting with women-led studios and founders. I'm passionate about supporting and empowering women in the gaming industry, and I'm eager to share their stories and insights with you in an upcoming episode of Cheat Codes. Stay tuned!
Chaotic Good Corner: Turbocharge Your Game Dev Skills
Humble Bundle has a really cool software bundle going on right now. If you're into game development (or want to get started!), this bundle is packed with Synty polygon assets and more. It can help you bring your projects to life quicker and make your dream game a reality. Synty assets are fully customizable and easy to use, so they're great for game developers of all levels. It's compatible with Unity and Unreal Engine. If you're looking to take your game dev skills to the next level, check it out here: humblebundleinc.sjv.io/AP3kJD
Game Dev Diary: The Balancing Act
Speaking of game development, I'm still trying to find that sweet spot between my community/marketing work and my own projects. It's a constant balancing act, but I'm determined to make it work. I'm juggling a lot, but I'm learning and growing every day, and I'm excited to share my journey with you.
Supporting Indie Devs: Rise of Elements Kickstarter
As someone who's passionate about community building and supporting indie devs, I wanted to give a shout-out to Rise of Elements. They're the awesome team behind the match-3 game I mentioned earlier, and they've launched a Kickstarter campaign to help bring their vision to life.
They're so close to reaching their goal, and I know how much a little support can mean to indie creators. If you're looking to back a project with a lot of potential (and get a super fun game in the process!), check out their Kickstarter here: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/wickedfoxgames/riseofelements
You can also wishlist it on Steam and join their community for playtests!
